The City Sleeps album cover

The City Sleeps

Solo guitar interpretations of Irish melodies, mostly.

In March, 2020 I was in Ireland expecting to start a tour when the world shut down. Instead of the tour, we went to an old lodge in rural County Westmeath to record. I returned late that month to a shuttered Brooklyn and, sequestered at home with the lingering feelings and impressions from my time in the muted Irish countryside, I began recording some of the tunes I had been playing.

Released Nov, 2023. Re-released on vinyl Apr, 2025 on the collection "Les Mains Invisibles" from Lyon-based label Adieu Berthe.

  • The city sleeps and the country sleeps,
  • The living sleep for their time. . . . the dead sleep for their
    • time,
  • The old husband sleeps by his wife and the young
    • husband sleeps by his wife;
  • And these one and all tend inward to me, and I tend
    • outward to them,
  • And such as it is to be of these more or less I am.

  • – Walt Whitman, from Song of Myself (1855)
